Safety equipment for the roof walkway
A roof walkway must be equipped with a safety rail or an open rail of at least 1200 mm in height if the house is over two stories high and the roof pitch is 1:1.5 or more. When performing maintenance work on the roof, the lifeline is attached using the Pisko Safeline wire system, Pisko horizontal rail or rope fastener. The rope fastener can be used on roofs where installing a safety rail is not appropriate.

The Pisko horizontal rail system has a certificate of compliance issued by VTT Expert Services Oy, VTT-VA-00003-15. The certificate indicates that the horizontal rail system meets the requirements of Finnish legislation in accordance with the “Kattoturvatuotteet – Kattopollarit, talotikkaat ja katon vaakaturvakiskot” assessment criteria issued by the Finnish Ministry of the Environment.
The certification of compliance for a building product is a voluntary Finnish approval procedure with which the manufacturer proves that the product meets the statutory requirements. It can be granted to product groups specified by the Finnish Ministry of the Environment which are not eligible for a CE mark.

The Pisko safety railing can be used as an alternative to a horizontal rail in maintenance tasks carried out from the roof walkway. The safety railing makes moving on the roof walkway safe. The Pisko safety railing must not be used as an anchoring point for a lifeline.
